Timothy Corrigan, Interior Designer

During the Fall 2014 Furniture Market I had the pleasure of meeting Timothy Corrigan, who is one of the world’s most respected interior designers.  He has been named to the Architectural Digest  Top 100 Interior Designers and Architects in the World  for 8 years and Robb’s Report awarded him the title of Top 40 Interior Designers in the World. Get the idea?  His list of accomplishments and influence in the world of interior design goes on and on.

Elle Decor states: “Timothy Corrigan creates comfortable spaces suffused with old-world elegance”.  No matter how beautifully a space is designed, it is not entirely successful unless it is also comfortable, practical and liveable. Mixing elements that are new and old and from all around the world, our work is classic but with a fresh, comfortable feeling. www/timothy-corrigan.com

After working on a design site for two weeks and  walking at the Furniture Market for 4 days my feet were screaming “no more walking!” I had marked “Comfortable Elegance  Tips for Creating Beautiful and Welcoming Spaces” by Timothy Corrigan as the number one seminar I wanted to attend during the furniture market.   Rather than walk around for another hour or go home, I decided to just put my feet up and read my emails while I waited for the seminar.  As soon as I walked into the seminar room Timothy walked up and introduced himself and invited me to come sit with him and his assistant, Elaine Maltzman.   I had an  amazing time  that I will  never forget.  Timothy has a contagious positive energy and love for interior design, his design projects and his clients.

The term “Comfortable Elegance” which has been trademarked by Timothy,is my favorite design philosophy!  No matter what your design style you can create a home that is comfortable and elegant.  I love, love this comfortable and inviting kitchen/dining room/ sunroom.  Can you imagine entertaining  your family and friends in this happy house?  My design business for several years was “Casual Elegance by Cheryl”. After years of people asking me if I was an image consultant, jewelry or clothing designer or owned a store, I changed my business name to Cheryl Hucks Interior Designs.  Now, everyone knows exactly what I do and my name!

One of my favorite ways to add height, elegance and importance to a bed is a bed crown or corona.

A common question client’s ask is ” how far above bathroom faucets to hang mirrors?”   Here’s the answer!  If your mirror is tall  and does not have a frame that projects out so far that it hits the faucet, hang it low. If your bathroom vanity mirror is hung too high or too low, you will know immediately….you will have uneasy feeling that something is not quite right.  I also like that Timothy used a silver tray (that would probably  be stored in a china cabinet)  to organize the counter top and create an elegance.

In 2003 Corrigan purchased a 45,000 square foot  neoclassical chateau in in Loire Valley, France and transformed it into an exquisite, livable home.  “An Invitation to Chateau du Grand-Luce , Decorating a Great French Country House” details the transformation with beautiful before and after photos. Century Furniture hosted a book signing during the  2014 Fall High Point Furniture Market. where I purchased the coffee table book.  I  have enjoying reading the book and seeing the chateau’s transformation through Timothy’s words and eyes.

Holiday Table Settings on Fox 8

Merry Christmas Everyone!  Cheryl Hucks, your Design Interperter, with my latest blog : Holiday Table Settings.  Last Friday, December 3, when I appeared on Fox 8 WGHP I displayed four different Holiday Table Settings.  When my younger son’s godparents started my Christmas china there were not too many patterns available.  Now, there are hundreds of patterns!!  Here are some photos of my Fox 8 examples.  My next blog will include a few more Holiday patterns.

One of Fox 8’s studio has been decorated as a Victorian Christmas. Perfect place for my Holiday Table Settings.

I used this table setting 4 years ago in a charity event, Festive Tables that benefited Habitat for Humanity for Greensboro and High Point, NC. I used silver and gold together.  This white and silver snow flake pattern has a simple elegance that could be used from November to March.  It is also good for someone who does not celebrate Christmas but wants a gorgeous table setting for special occasions. Isn’t the pewter squirrel adorable? Plate , cups and glass: Target. Place mat and snowflake napkin ring: Pier One.

Cutherson Christmas Tree is my Christmas china.  I use gold chargers and green and red plaid placements but you could also use silver or red chargers or place mats and napkins.  I like to add a little whimsy to each table setting.  My reindeer is wearing a candle ring.  My napkin holders are crystal balls on gold rope tree ornaments.

Would you believe the china is melamine!! Looks expensive but only cost about $3:00-4.00 per plate.  Dishwasher safe but not microwave safe.  I love the snowflake dessert plate.  They also have matching  bowls.  Red plastic glass is a must!   I added a red charger and green place mat and red napkin.  I used one of my gold napkin rings, but Christmas green, candy cane striped or even black would have been festive.  The red LED pillar candle and  candle ring are from Hobby Lobby. I constantly try to use items I already  have when decorating for holidays.  Black lantern with LED candle is from my patio.  I added a red ribbon and holly to the lantern handle.    Plates, glass, charger, place mat: Target.  Candle, candle ring: Hobby Lobby. Lantern: Ross.  My mother made the all the red napkins and I bought the napkin ring many years ago.

Your children and grandchildren would love Christmas plates, cups and place mats just for them!  The Snowman plate has a rubber surface on the bottom to prevent sliding. Straw and lid prevent spills in the adorable snowman  cup.  Cookies for Santa place mat can  be used when kids are eating and then as a place for Santa’s milk and cookies.  Place a snow topped tree at each place settings.  My favorite decoration is my Yorkie statue which I call Cocoa after my tiny 3.5 lb Yorkie.  The Yorkie statue and my Cocoa were almost the same size.  Love the Santa hat!!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Valentine’s Day has always been a special day for me because it was my mother’s birthday! I treated my mom and several of her dearest and oldest friends to a Valentine Birthday luncheon at my house. Many of these decorations were part of my table décor.

Whether you have an intimate dinner for two, a dinner for your family, luncheon for friends, couples dinner or as I did one Valentine’s Day, a dinner for several of my single friends, you can use many of my ideas for a festive, romantic table.

These “Be My Valentine” placemats remind me of candy!

My romantic Valentine Table!  I added a heart shaped photo frame with my granddaughter’s photo, gold sequined votive holders and brass napkins rings.  You must have a red tablecloth and napkins! I added a little glitz with the red tinsel garland.
